This adoption story is absolutely one of our favourites! We all fell in love with Tankie and our staff worked tirelessly to work with him and find the perfect home. Thank you to the Josh, Christine and Gertie for giving this lovable pup the best life! And thank you to everyone who cheered this boy on, kept their fingers crossed and continue to support the pets that live at the shelter.

Meet: Tankie ❤️
Owners: Christine, Josh and Gertie

Tankie (aka; “Tank”, “Tanker”, “Tankerbell”, “Tank-a-saurus”)

To introduce Tank, first we must talk about Gertie (adopted from the MJ humane society in December of 2019). Gertie is the ruler in the household and gets whatever she wants. But, sometimes having all the treats, walks and playtime wasn’t enough for Gertie, she was getting a little bored. We started to entertain the idea of getting her a brother or sister in April of 2022. While casually browsing (read: obsessing over) every dog available for adoption on the Moose Jaw Humane Society Instagram page, we saw a photo of Tankie come up in May. While he fit the bill for what our family was looking for, we were aware he wasn’t great with other dogs.

We continued to see Tankie pop up on the Humane Society website and couldn’t get over that he had not been adopted! Fast forward to October – Cranberry Collective was running a fundraiser for the MJHS and we got to meet Tankie, in person, while putting together a video for a promotional reel. We were in love with this hairy, goofy, happy, sweet boy who only wanted to play fetch and get pets. The expectation was that he would be adopted instantly. Weeks went by, we checked in on the website and Tank was still there (over 250 days, in fact!). We decided to contact the Humane Society to see if Tankie would be a good fit with our family. After a phone call and some discussion we were able to set up a “meet and greet” to see if Gertie and Tankie could get along. MJHS brought in Jess from No Dog Left Behind. After the first meet and greet, we didn’t want to rush either dog into a situation where they would be uncomfortable. Within two visits the two dogs showed considerable improvement.

We adopted Tank in early January 2023, and he instantly molded into our home. The first time he visited, he jumped over the back of the couch, plopped on the cushion, and has since made this his favourite spot. He has fit in so well, either trying to get Gert to play tug, asking for belly rubs, or snoozing in the coolest spot he can find. He’s our little adventure buddy, the minute we are headed out of a room he follows behind. You can almost hear him think “Where are we going…? You know what…? Doesn’t matter, I’m coming”. He couldn’t be a better companion to us and best friend to Queen Gertie. We absolutely love this big fluff ball!
