Valentine's Day - Collections and Conservation History.

These cards were exchanged between children Mildred and Philip, their parents William and Eva Mackie and maternal grandparents “Grampa” and “Bambum” from 1915 to 1917.

Originally from Montreal, William moved to Winnipeg in 1903 to establish a coal and wood yard at Aberdeen and Main St. William was soon followed by his then-fiancée Eva Bussiere and her parents, as well as his mother and sister. The family spent their first years in the city in the North End, moving to River Heights in 1915. In the 1930s, William and Philip founded Mackie Travel, an agency that initially specialized in bus tours of North American, and employed Mildred as a sales agent for most of her working life. Philip suggested the idea for the business after he and his new bride, Joan, travelled to Los Angeles, CA, by bus on their honeymoon.
