Pen & Ink 101
Offered by Mike O’Leary
At the end of this 2 hour class you will have an understanding of different types of ink and pens, of different papers and how they interact with the ink. You will experience working with brush and ink, ink washes in both wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet. You will learn different techniques to create contrast and values in your drawings, as well as how to format an attractive composition on a small scale. This class will have 2 dates available for you to sign up: Tuesday May 16th 2023 OR May 18th 2023
DATE: Tuesday May 16th 2023 OR Thursday May 18th 2023
TIME: 2pm-4pm
COST OF CLASS: $45
SUPPLIES (all available at HOFA):
Bottle of Speedball Super Black India Ink (Other inks will work but not as well)
3 sheets of 5”x7” Cold press watercolor paper 140lb (ready cut watercolor cards/sheets will work well)
3 sheets of 6”x9” Bristol vellum surface paper
or you can purchase a single use mini ink for this class as well as the 6 sheets (3 sheets of 5”x7” watercolor & 3 sheets of 6”x9” Bristol listed above ) needed for this class for an additional $6
Other Supplies:
6”x9” Watercolor cold press 140lb pad AND/OR Bristol vellum surface sketchbook pad
Assorted fine liners (Micron works best as it is waterproof & has archival ink, suggested sizes are 01,03,05)
3 X Separate containers to mix ink wash of different strengths (pill bottles work or a clean small watercolor palette)
Eye dropper
Paper towel
Kneaded eraser
Watercolor brushes, for these purposes #2, to #6 flat or pointed, two brushes should do it; you're
welcome to bring what you already use for watercolour
Water container
HB pencil
Eraser
Ruler
(Optional) bring your watercolors, small plein air sets, etc, for those finished early they could incorporate watercolor in the mix.
