I am going to be doing a toy collection for Christmas presents for underprivileged youth in our town. As we all know 2016 was a hard year in Alberta. Usually I do this type of thing privately and do other sorts of giveaways for clients at Christmastime. Our family has also been effected by the economic downturn so I thought this would be a clever way to donate my time in exchange for a toy collection.
Every person who drops off a toy will be entered into my healthy club draw. Every $5 toy value = 1 entry. $20 value = 5 entries. You can go nuts! If you want to get your friends and family in on it too, great! The bigger we go the better! If you spend $50 we take 10% off your fees. Spend $100 and that's 20%...
Do you have toys unopened that your kids had duplicates of? That's great, we will estimate the value.
This is a great way to involve our kids in our shopping as well. It's an important lesson on giving.
I cannot walk past a Salvation Army kettle without giving something. When I was a child we received hampers with groceries and a gift and it was a very big deal. I remember the year I got the coolest Barbie and never put her down. That gift giver had no idea what that would mean to me.
[I will spare you the details of my first fundraising idea fiasco (gaming commissions, lawyers, inability to approve licensing...)]
