Thursday night we had the honour of attending the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards at the Delta Fredericton as we were one of 3 finalists for the Not-For-Profit Award presented by Jim Gilberts Wheels and Deals alongside 2 amazing organizations; Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation and The Chimo Help Line. I am both humbled and honoured to inform you that we received this award and its recognition last night. Special Olympics Athlete, Lennie Porter, provided an acceptance speech on our behalf of SONB and nailed it! Receiving the only standing ovation of the night! You can view a video here:
While nothing we do is for recognition it is an honour for us to have a platform like this to share our message. We are fortunate enough to inherently attract the most amazing people to our organization. Our board of directors, staff, volunteers, athletes, families and supporters all play a major role. Our success is not, and cannot be, attributed to the work of any one individual. Together as one team we are making our organization stronger and as a result our community is the benefactor. We believe in athlete centred programming to provide warm, open and welcoming places for individuals with an intellectual disability to reach their goals, and more importantly, live a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
It is amazing what can happen when good people, do good things, for good reasons. Together we are making a brighter tomorrow for our collective communities. Thank you for your continued support of Special Olympics NB. Without you we would never be able to reach our goals and provide the programs we do.
Humbly your friend, Josh
