The Importance of Ethical Mining
By Chris and Melissa Robak, Owners of Silver Cove Ltd

The world of minerals is a passion and a lifelong journey for many of us in the gemstone industry...our lives literally and figuratively revolve around rocks!

Beautiful specimens & polished pieces help to feed our families while bringing joy to millions of people and supporting small businesses around the globe. That is why it is so important to do what we can to ensure that we minimize the impact of mining on the environment by prioritizing the protection & promotion of human rights and local communities while striving toward social responsibility, transparency, and governance and seek out and work with like minded companies around the world.

As a family owned and operated company in Canada, a country with strict rules regarding mineral extraction, we chose early in our 18 year career to focus on finding ways to bring Canadian Minerals to the world market without causing undue stress on the areas Mother Nature has allowed us to explore.

Hand harvesting in bulk is hard work! By airlifting into locations instead of building roads, choosing our areas carefully, and only taking what Mother Nature is willing to share each season, we are proud to bring Canadian gemstones to the world market each year.

We have Sapphire, Aquamarine, Peridot, Moonstone, Sodalite, Ammolite, Golden Healer Quartz, Meteoritic Amethyst, Garnet, Staurolite, Bubble Jade, Glacial Calcite, Fluorite, Iolite, Pinolith, Rhodonite, Thulite, Citrine, & Rose Quartz in various states of development. Each season brings additional opportunities.

The ethical harvesting of minerals comes at a cost, but knowing that we are helping to protect the natural environment, doing our part in some way to ensure the long term viability of the mining industry makes each challenge worthwhile.
