Very often I take my inspiration for class themes from my books! This little cutie is a particular favourite! You may even have been in class when I have read one of Rumi's treats!
Rumi was born 810 years ago and was one of the most profound and relevant poets of our time. He was an experimental innovator among the Persian poets and a Sufi master. He wrote over 3000 love songs to the mystic Shams of Tabriz.
He was a poet of joy and love. His work comes out of dealing with the separation from Shams, from love, from the source of creation, and out of facing death.
Rumi’s message cuts through and communicates. I saw a bumper sticker once, with a line from Rumi: “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there.”
Do you have a specific book, poet, author, you turn to for inspiration?
